Cryotherapy is a treatment that uses subzero temperatures to soothe an irritated nervous system, provide pain relief and reduce inflammation. This innovative technology has replaced the need for ice baths. Cryotherapy is more effective and more comfortable for the individual, and each treatment only takes three minutes. During a whole-body cryotherapy session, you will stand in a chamber, or cryosauna, wearing only gloves, socks, undies and booties for three minutes as the chamber is filled with a nitrogen vapor to drop the temperature. Your body is surrounded by cold air, with temperatures dropping as low as -200 degrees Fahrenheit. A cryotherapy technician will be there to talk you through the entire experience.

Although this is a drastic temperature change, it is a dry cold, and your head and airways remain outside of the chamber at all times. Your core body temperature remains the same while only your skin gets cold. Some patients do experience a slight drop in body temperature in the few minutes immediately following the treatment, but their internal temperature quickly rises back to normal.
