The Magic of Myofascial Acoustic Compression Therapy (MyACT)

At Sports Recovery Annex and Iselborn Chiropractic, we harness the power of Myofascial Acoustic Compression Therapy (MyACT), also known as the PiezoWave.

What is MyACT and How Does It Work?

MyACT is a non-invasive and innovative approach that effectively treats acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. By utilizing sound waves, MyACT targets dysfunctional tissue at varying depths, promoting regeneration and remodeling at a cellular level. Unlike soft tissue massage, MyACT penetrates deeper, reaching areas inaccessible by hands. Its positive effects include reduced muscle tension, relaxation, improved circulation, decreased healing time, and increased collagen production, all contributing to reduced recovery time.

MyACT can effectively treat a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions in muscles and joints, including tennis elbow, patellar tendonitis (jumper’s knee), plantar fasciitis, trigger points, stress fractures, various tendinopathies, and soft tissue sprains and strains.

What to Expect During a MyACT Treatment Session

A typical MyACT treatment session lasts between 10 and 20 minutes. Using patient-guided cues, we identify the source of pain, even if it’s not directly felt in the area where the pain seems to radiate from (referred pain). Gel is applied to the skin to facilitate the transmission of sound waves generated by the device head to the body. The treatment starts at a low intensity, gradually increasing to a tolerable level. The intensity and frequency may vary based on tissue depth and type. Patients may experience a dull ache, known as a “flare point,” over the source of pain. The intensity is adjusted based on patient feedback. After treatment, the gel is removed, and patients can resume normal activities.

Mild soreness or discomfort may occur post-treatment, but staying hydrated can help alleviate these effects. We recommend 1 to 2 treatments per week, with a total of 4 to 7 treatments often necessary for lasting improvement. However, in some cases, a single treatment can significantly reduce symptoms in acute injuries.
