Trigger Point Shock Wave Therapy (Piezo)

type of treatment

Trigger Point Shock Wave Therapy (Piezo)

The PiezoWave2 and Myofascial Acoustic Compression Therapy (MyACT) is used for a variety of injuries, including acute and chronic pain in muscles, tendons, and joints. The treatments involve using acoustic waves to target tissue at varying depths to compress and manipulate tissue, resulting in a focused and precise treatment zone.

The PiezoWave2 can help to increase circulation (blood flow) and pain relief to aid in the healing process.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

The treatment with the acoustic waves are focused on your area of pain, however, the source of pain may not always be in the same area where the pain is felt (referred pain).

Our treatment of the PiezoWave can last between 20 and 30 minutes. Treatments are normally performed 1-2 times per week, best results are noted when treatment sessions are not weeks apart. Total treatment sessions vary for each person and their own healing rate, however, on average a total of 4-8 treatments may be necessary before lasting improvements are achieved. With acute pain, a single session may be successful.

A coupling gel will be applied to the treatment area to help translate the acoustic sound waves to the body. Treatment will start at a low intensity and frequency and will slowly increase to the level that is best suited to you and your condition. The intensity and frequency can be lowered at any time during the frequency and may vary at different areas.

During the treatment, you may notice a dull, deep ache- it is very important that you communicate this with your clinician to ensure proper treatment. Communication is key during treatment, thus, you will be an important part of the process.

Following treatment, you will be able to return to your normal activities. However, we do suggest avoiding any strenuous exertion for the first day, as some minor soreness is likely. You will be provided with a complimentary water after treatment to begin the rehydrating process and it will be important for you to continue this on your own to prevent any undesired soreness.

SIDE EFFECTS

Limited side effects include reddened skin and/or minor soreness (good hydration will help prevent any soreness).
